Zombie (with Seun Kuti)

Live session by Newen Afrobeat with Seun Kuti performing "Zombie", the song Fela Kuti released in 1977 about police brutality against his own people. It was recorded in a single take at Estudios La Makinita, Santiago, in April 2019, in the days after Lollapalooza Chile, and the band published it in October 2021.

The meeting had a history: in 2018 Newen had returned to Nigeria to take part in Felabration in Lagos for the second time, alongside the Kuti family. Seun Kuti sings and plays alto sax; Fran Ri shares lead vocals, with backing vocals by Francisca Castro and Macarena Rozic and a horn section of three trumpets and three saxophones. Cristian "Pini" Zamora recorded it, Camilo Carrasco edited it and Jorge "Pluto" Abarca mixed and mastered it; Tino Canessa (Lichens Family) produced.

The band reads the song as a premonition of what would happen in Chile in October 2019.
